8:00-8:30 Activity 1:  "Change Experiment" (Cafeteria)

 

8:30-9:30 Activity 2a:  Simulation - What does PL look like? (Breakout Rooms)

Choose one of the following activities to help you learn more about what personalized learning looks like in action.

 

  • Video Tour - This Safari Montage playlist will allow you to take a video tour of several schools implementing blended learning.  

  • ThingLink - This interactive image will allow you to investigate how River Trail's own Ms. Ceely uses a station rotation model in her classroom to personalize learning.

  • Webquest - Use this website to read more about some of the steps needed for "Embarking on the Personalized Learning Journey."

  • Blended - This excerpt from the book Blended: Using Disruptive Innovation to Improve Schools describes several models for blended learning programs.  It includes diagrams and video examples of each model.

9:30-9:45 Break - Return to Cafeteria and sit with PLC groups. 

 

9:45-10:05 Activity 2b:  Reflection 3-2-1 Protocol (Cafeteria)

  • Reflect upon what you learned during your chosen session.

  • Identify:

    • 3 of the most important ideas from the activity.

    • 2 supporting details for each of these ideas

    • and 1 question you have about each of these ideas.

  • Share what you wrote down with a partner.

  • Volunteers share some of their insights about personalized learning.

10:05-11:30 Activity 3a:  Instructional Models for PL (Cafeteria - PLC Groups)

 

Instructional Models Jig Saw - For this activity you will work with your PLC groups.  

  • Each person will become the expert on a different instructional model.

  • Spend 40 minutes exploring the resources for your instructional model & be prepared to share what you learned.

  • Each person will create a visual aid (poster, outline, notes, etc.) that can be used to explain the key components of their instructional model to the rest of the PLC group. (15 minutes)

  • Each group member will present his/her instructional model to their PLC group (5 minutes each).

11:30-12:45 Lunch on your own

 

12:45 - 1:15 Activity 3b: Musical Chat (Cafeteria)

Directions:  While the music is playing walk around the room.  When the music stops, reach out and partner up with the person you are standing closest to.  Discuss the given prompt with your partner. 

 

Prompt 1:  How are you feeling about personalized learning after this morning's activities?

 

Prompt 2:  Which of the seven principles of personalized learning excites you most? (Varied Strategies, Just-in-time Direct Instruction, Choice and Voice, Mastery-based Assessments, Choice for Demonstrating Learning, Flexible Pacing, Co-planning learning with students.)

 

Prompt 3:  Which of the seven principles of personalized learning do you feel the most uncertain about?  (Varied Strategies, Just-in-time Direct Instruction, Choice and Voice, Mastery-based Assessments, Choice for Demonstrating Learning, Flexible Pacing, Co-planning learning with students.)

 

Prompt 4:  Have any of your ideas about personalized learning begun to shift or change?

 

1:20-2:30 Activity 4a:  What is our "Problem of Practice?" (Breakout Rooms)

2:35-2:50 Activity 4b: Group Consensus and Voting for POP (Cafeteria)

3:00-3:30 Activity 5:  Revisiting on our "Need to Know List" (Cafeteria)

  • What questions have we begun to answer?

  • What questions still need clarification?

  • Do we need to add anything else to our list?

 

3:30-4:00 Activity 6:  Personalized Learning Unit Plans (Cafeteria)

 

Use the PL Unit Plan Outline to help you think through how you will personalized learning in your class for an upcoming unit.  The outline is only a guide.  If you think of something else that will help you with "our challenge" then add it to your plan.  You will present your plan using the Critical Friends Protocol at our faculty meeting on November 10th.  This will be an opportunity for you to reflect on your plan and get feedback from your colleagues before implementing the plan with your students.
